All our testers are qualified to City and Guilds 2391 and have years of experience in the trade.
Tests are done to the NAPIT standard to ensure that your installation conforms to the Wiring Regulations as listed by BS7671:2008.
The test consists of both a visual inspection and a series of tests. We look for deterioration of the installation and whether that deterioration presents a risk.
The visual inspection will check for damage and wear and tear.
For instance cracked sockets, loose light fittings, scorched/loose cables. We also check that the correct protective devices MCBs/RCBOs/fuses have been installed and that the main gas and water pipes have been bonded to earth.
The installation is also investigated by measurement. Earth fault loop impedances are measured, the insulation of cables is checked by measurement, earth conductors are checked for continuity, earth leakage devices are checked that they disconnect in time, polarity is checked to ensure that switches are in the live conductor, ring circuits are checked for continuity and a schedule of results is recorded.
Now if all this is unfamiliar and confusing there is no need to worry. Any faults will be explained in laymans language on the Certificate and the tester will be happy to explain the results to you and go through any works needed to maintain your installation.
